Tools of space cooperation between UE and NIS:
status and perspectives

INTAS is a not-for-profit International Association under Belgian Law formed by the European Community, the European Union's member states and like minded countries devoted to the promotion of cooperation with scientists from the New Independent States of the former Soviet Union.

CNES, the French Space Agency, works in close and fruitful cooperation with INTAS, mainly in the field of Research and Technology Development dedicated to launcher vehicles and satellite systems.

In this context, and taking into account the successful results of the 1997 INTAS/CNES collaborative call for proposals, both parties decided to launch together a 2nd collaborative call in 2003. Ten projects were selected after peer-review and are currently being carried out by teams composed of INTAS member states and NIS research institutions. These projects are due to end by mid 2006. On May 26, 2005 a progress meeting for all the projects is scheduled in Toulouse.

In order to benefit from the synergy created by this meeting, CNES and INTAS will jointly organise on Friday 27th May 2005 at the IAS (Institut Aéronautique et Spatial) 23 av. Edouard Belin, Toulouse/France, a workshop entitled
"Tools of space cooperation between EU and NIS: status and perspectives"

The objectives of the workshop will be to present the existing tools dedicated to promote the development of cooperation in space research between the EU and NIS; and on the basis of the various presentations, to draw out the main strategic lines for the next CNES/INTAS call, which is envisaged for 2006.
